Launching and Managing Stacks Using the Command Line Interface

Orchestration provides a level of automation in creating your virtual machines through templates. Use the orchestration engine to create and manage your infrastructure resources through a single or set of yaml files. For example you can define storage, networking, instances, and applications and use that template repeatedly to create a running environment instead of defining these values each time.

Templates are used to create stacks, which are collections of resources. For example, a stack might include instances, floating IPs, volumes, security groups, and users. The Orchestration service offers access to all Metcloud core services through a single modular template, with additional orchestration capabilities such as auto-scaling and basic high availability.

For information about basic creation and deletion of Orchestration stacks, see the Launching and Managing Stacks.

For information about using the OpenStack Command Line Interface, see the Command Line Interface Cheat Sheet

Note
The heat Command Line Interface is deprecated in favor of python-openstackclient. For a Python library, continue using python-heatclient.

As an administrator, you can also carry out stack functions on behalf of your users. For example, to resume, suspend, or delete a stack, run the openstack stack commands:

$ openstack stack resume STACK
$ openstack stack suspend STACK
$ openstack stack delete STACK
