This storage platform upgrade, which will run on Metacloud 4.8.0, provides a major version upgrade of the Metacloud Storage Serivce (i.e. Ceph).
Enhancements & Updates
Storage Upgrade: From “Hammer” to “Jewel”
For all our customers who are running Metacloud Storage (i.e. Ceph) we are happy to announce a new major upgrade of the underlying Ceph storage libraries. The current storage platform has been running a version of the Ceph “Hammer” release which was recently sunsetted, and we will be looking to move all Metacloud Storage customers to this new “Jewel” based version. While this upgrade doesn’t add any functionality it does give us the ability to maintain the platform and continue to deliver a great service.
Getting the upgrade & details
In order to be eligible to get the upgrade, customer deployments must first be on Metacloud version 4.8.0. Furthermore, in order to update to the next Metacloud release, which will be version 4.9.0, customers that utilize Metacloud Storage will need to have upgraded their Metacloud Storage service.
Metacloud support will coordinate upgrades with each customer and go over details of what’s involved. During the upgrade, customers can expect some orchestration downtime for various OpenStack services (i.e. Nova, Cinder, Glance) and may experience some I/O latency within virtual machines, but there should be no impact to virtual machine availability throughout the maintenance. Customers may also experience some I/O impact post maintenance while the storage service rebalances data.
Please note there are no changes to any OpenStack API versions as part of this upgrade.
